John Mulaney dropping truth bombs. Yes, most sexually active people will get HPV at some point — but most forms of HPV aren’t harmful. That being said, it is absolutely something to be aware of since certain types of HPV can cause genital warts, cervical cancer, throat cancer, anal cancer, and penile cancer. You can protect yourself against many harmful forms of HPV by getting the HPV vaccine. Using condoms and latex barriers during sex play is also a super important way to reduce your risk. Looking for more info on HPV and the HPV vaccine? Check out this HPV page from plannedparenthood.

Males and females can both receive HPV vaccines as well! More information here

sexetc:

Hi anon,

Some people who feel the way you describe might identify as bisexual, or they might identify as queer or they may identify as another sexual orientation. Sexual orientation is who someone is emotionally, romantically and sexually attracted to. Only you can decide how or if you want to identify your sexual orientation. This can sound sort of frustrating because there isn’t one right answer that we can give you, but it’s actually pretty empowering because you get to decide how you want to identify your feelings and which word you use and no one else can.

I hope this helps.

Myth or Fact

There is no need to use a condom during sexual contact if both partners already have HIV.

Myth! There are different strains of HIV. If a condom is not used during sexual contact, HIV-infected partners may exchange different types or strains of HIV. This can lead to re-infection, which…

Let’s stop HIV in New York City

  • If you are HIV-negative, PEP and PrEP can help you stay that way.
  • If you are HIV-positive, PEP and PrEP can help protect your partners.

Daily PrEP

PrEP is a daily pill that can help keep you HIV-negative as long as you take it every day.

  • Ask your doctor if PrEP (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis) may be right for you.
  • Condoms give you additional protection against HIV, other sexually transmitted infections, and unintended pregnancy.

Emergency PEP

If you are HIV-negative and think you were exposed to HIV, immediately go to a clinic or emergency room and ask for PEP (Post-exposure  Prophylaxis).

  • PEP can stop HIV if started within 36 hours of exposure.
  • You continue taking PEP for 28 days.

Many insurance plans including Medicaid cover PEP and PrEP. Assistance may be available if you are uninsured. Visit NYC Health’s website to find out where to get PrEP or PEP in New York City.

Today is the Transgender Day of Visibility! According to Trans Student Equality Resources:

TDoV is a day to show your support for the trans community. It aims to bring attention to the accomplishments of trans people around the globe while fighting cissexism and transphobia by spreading knowledge of the trans community. Unlike Transgender Day of Remembrance, this is not a day for mourning: this is a day to be empowered and get the recognition we deserve!

Trans followers, I support, respect and celebrate you 100%. Each and every one of you is totally badass. Keep bein’ you. And to find a TDoV event near you, click here.

There also needs to be more visibility to ensure that transgender people receive the quality healthcare they need.
